About
us
Earthwise Productions, Inc.
Environmental consulting and
publications targeted to a diverse market.
Our company
grew out of a 12,000-mile
adventure around the country for 10 weeks in
1995. We visited 14 national parks from Acadia in Maine on the Atlantic
Coast, to Olympic National Park in Washington
State on the Pacific
Coast. |
|
We were
stunned by the lavish natural beauty that
we hadn't even
known existed. It was as if we lived in a mansion, but until then we had
only seen the kitchen. Now, the grand living room
was open to us, and it
was an entirely
different world.
But, there were no other black people among the employees or visitors!
In the entire time, we saw only two other black faces. Many of our
friends told us they did not know about the National Parks. We made up
our minds that we would help to change this situation.
We began publishing Pickup & GO! toward the end of 1995 to provide
information about the National Parks as inviting and affordable
destinations for African Americans.
Our work has been featured in national publications including
National Parks; Audubon; Ebony Essence, Coleur & Sailing magazines
as well as in newspapers such as The Miami Herald, City Link, The
Sun-Sentinel, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and USAToday online.
In 2003, Frank accepted the position of Southeast Regional Director
of The Wilderness Society, based in Atlanta. Today, he is the Director
of Public and Political Awareness for the organization's Eastern Forest
Program, and leads many initiatives that are geared to increase the
involvement of the racially diverse public. A "Morehouse Man,"
Frank is also a graduate of Howard University and a member of Omega Psi
Phi fraternity.
He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Visitors, Duke
University, Nicholas School of Environment.
Audrey serves on the Board of Trustees, the National Parks Conservation
Association, (www.npca.org) the Board
of the Association of Partners for Public Lands (www.appl.org)
and the Board of the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation (www.artmarshall.org)
Simultaneously, we have worked with the mainstream environmental
movement and our work has been recognized with national awards
including:
The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Award for Outstanding Citizen
Advocacy
on Behalf of the National
Parks, 1998.
The Everglades Coalition George Barley Leadership Award, 1998.
The Environmental Hero Award from Vice President Al Gore, 2000 |
